Week 11

report for WEEK 11

on 14th June 2010, I Went for site meeting at PK AGRO project around 3.30pm. This meeting mainly discussed about the electrical and mechanical part which mainly involve NSC (FULOOP). Few items discussed such as variations works for electrical works and air conditional variation orders. Also includes in the meeting is the time/frame schedule to complete the mezzanine office such as lighting, air conditional and many more. Fulloop defects also highlighted in this meeting such as telephone ducts, armoured cable not in G.I conduit & CCTV cable broken.

On 15th June 2010, I went to Senawang Phase 2 near Taman Widuri Indah to snap some pictures & observed the project site with Mr.Lim around 10am. This is considered as a site research to obtain the view and idea to design the platform, road & drainage, sewerage to match the existing lot at the 4 boundaries as the site located at centre. The drainage design also need to be design as it could match to the existing drainage to discharge the water to any river near the site.

Then around 1pm, I went to Shi Sei Autoparts at project at Kapar, Klang to inspect the steel column arrived at site. The size of the steel column for the big one is 533kg and the small column is 356kg. I also observed the ground beam construction & there is some part where the lean concrete poured to the ground as 3’’ thickness. At 3pm, I went to Han San factory project site at Kapar Indah to inspect the construction works whether done properly or not. Almost 60% works done at site and Ir.Liew inspects the works done according to their record given to JSA. We found some defects and Non Conformance Report delivered to the contractor as below:-

1) Internal water plumbing pipe – we specified ABS CL.15 pipe. Site use PVC Class 7 pipe. These pipes are not acceptable by SYABAS. You are required to remove and redo again.

2) External Manhole and Pipe – 2 external manholes located outside the toilets is appeared to be too shallow. You have also use non-conform pipe inside the manhole and also from the toilets. You must use BS 4660 underground as soil pipe and vitrified glazed ware pipe inside the manhole. **AS SUCH, PLEASE RE-DO THE MANHOLE AND PIPE WORK COMPLETELY!

On 16th June 2010, I attend the site meeting at PK AGRO project around 2pm. The issues that discussed in this meeting is same as discussed in the previous meeting and the status of each issued reported by the NSC. Then after the meeting over, the owner show some slide presentation for the technical man who came from the Main Plant from Thailand. The presentation includes the internal and external machine used in the factory and the interior design pattern for the factory’s office.

On 17th June 2010, I went to Principle Perspective Engineering S/B for a project meeting. This PPE Company is specialise in construction field and located at Banting, Selangor. This meeting is between the construction firm owner, Mr.Loke and us. It is regarding a American Solar Panel factory project (Phase 2) that will be kick off on 15th July 2010. Ir.Liew recommended by Mr.Loke to the Owner as the consultant engineer for this project. The phase 1 of the project is still in progress and the area for the phase 2 is behind the phase 1 area. This is a very large factory which the land for the phase 2 covers up till 45,000 m2. The main contractor for this project will be in 2 teams which are PPE and Fluor Daniel (from US). PPE covers the architect, civil and structure while Fluor Daniel covers mechanical, electrical and processing.

Then around 2pm, I went to Ng Boon Seng factory project site at Telok Panglima Garang. The works at the site is still in progress. The steel roof and column for both block A& B already done. For the office area, the RC body structure already had done partly outer part such as the beams, columns and slabs.

On 18th June 2010, I went for YoungReem project site at Taman Tuanku Jaafar, Neg.Sembilan to observe the works in progress at site. I observed the piling works & they were using the Hume RC pile size 150mmx150mm and 200mm x 200mm. Then, I went to observe the pile cap construction as the concrete mixer arrived and pour the mixture into the formworks. Then, I also observed the steel bars at the site which has many types such as high tensile steel bar Y12, Y16, Y20 and Y25. I also observed the steel bars bending process to be use as reinforcement in the pile cap construction.

Week 10

report for WEEK 10

On 07 June 2010, I went to Proguard Project site with Mr.Isma (JSA Mechanical Engineer). We went there for the Bomba inspection around 11am. While us reaching the site, the main fire hydrant pipe being installed. Bomba officers (from Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam) reached site around 11.10am. Then, we had a small discussion about the factory drawing and fire fighting equipment such as fire hydrant, sprinkler system and hose reel.

After that, the authority starts the inspection on fire fighting equipment. First, they went to the Bomba pump room to check the inlet and outlet water pressure to the hose reel and sprinkler. Then, the officers checked the water pressure from the hose reel. 2 hose reels being tested at one time to make sure the water pressure is sufficient. The emergency lights also inspected by turning off the electric main distribution box of each section in case of black out or emergency. Then, the officers checked the sprinkler and break glass alarm system whether functioning or not. Lastly, the Bomba officers inspected the emergency control panel in the Guard house which will indicate signal in the emergency section in case of fire emergency.

On 8 June 2010, I went for an owner consultant meeting at DOU YEE factory at Senawang, Negeri Sembilan around 10am. This is a foreign company from Singapore and has many branches over 15 places in the world. This company provide plastic tray for chocolate, silicants and film roll. The owner wants to extend his existing factory using the land behind his factory. Firstly, Ir Liew explained briefly to the owner regarding the company profile and the past/present projects.

Then, he shows to the owner the proposed drawing prepared by him which shows the conceptual drawing of the new factory. Ir.Liew also explained his scope of works starting from the conceptual drawing till the completion of project. He explained to the owner that this project could be done in two ways either using method of Bill of Quantity tender (BQ) or Lump Sump tender. Bill of Quantity will be prepared by licensed Quantity Surveyor (QS) while the Lump Sump tender will be based on detail drawings and the contractor price in according to the drawing.

Ir. Liew explained to the owner that the factory minimum setback length for the behind portion is 40 ft and for side portion is 25 ft. He also explained that the slab on the area which has the forming machine will be thicker than normal slab. This is for the machine anchoring purpose. Due to the factory extension and they need more power supply, they wants to change the LV power supply phase to HT power supply approximately (500amp). Thus, the tariff category also will change from D to E2 (24 hours operation).

Since the warehouse is a hazard area, Bomba required sprinkler system in the warehouse area. Since the existing factory has the sprinkler tank, they just need the new piping for sprinkler for the new factory. For air ventilation, there is a jack roof provided on top of roof compartment. It is sufficient enough for 4 ways air ventilation.

On 9th June 2010 around 10am, I went to BIOENERGY factory at Nilai 3 with Miss Nora for the Majlis Perbandaran Nilai (MPN) on the road inspection. The factory project requires a new premix road in front of the factory. The additional road is 3m length and there is existing main road there. The officer from MPN comes only to inspect the premix layer only as he already approves the ‘crusher run’ layer before this. This is the second time inspection of premix as it fails on the 1st time due to not enough thickness as required JKR, 6 Inch (120mm).

For this inspection, the coring machine used to cut and bring out the premix sample from the road. 3 samples needed by the officer from different places along the road. The thickness of the premix is 120mm inclusive of wearing course 50mm and binder course 70mm. The 3 samples inspected by the officer for the premix thickness and quality. The samples crushed as soon it took out from the coring machine. This proves that the premix is not compacted well and the quality also very low. Thus, the officer explained that he could not approve this premix and he asked the contractor to redo again the premix.

Then around 12pm, I joined Ir.Liew at the PK AGRO site meeting as the meeting already half way through. The main discussion in the meeting is about the weekly progress report from the Nominated subcontractor and the Main contractor. Fulloop (NSC) mainly urged to chase the TNB for cable laying for power supply. They also discussed about the alternative way if Fulloop could not get the power supply for the test run factory on 15 June 2010. They planned to use a generator set with half load for 3 days nonstop and Fulloop agreed to bear first time diesel cost.

Around 2.30pm, I went for a client meeting at Seikotech factory at Taman Tuanku Jaafar, Negeri Sembilan. This meeting is regarding the owner wanted to extend his factory to build a warehouse. He wants to join the new warehouse with the existing factory. They also discussed about the factory layout and the portion in the warehouse. Ir.liew proposed some ideas and he said that he will come with a drawing proposal for clearer view for the owner. Then, we were brought to have a look the empty land and the existing factory.

On 10th June 2010, around 9.10am I went to JKR at Kompleks Pentadbiran Seremban, Seremban 2 to submit the road plan for the Eliteflex Project. The road at the project site does not involve JKR roads. So, we must get the approval from Hj.Halim ( Pembantu Teknik Jalan) that JKR road is not involve in this project. Since, Hj.Halim was not in his office at that time, I went again around 4pm to meet him.

Then, around 10.30pm I went for Consultant Client Meeting (CCM) and site meeting of the SUNNY MODE project. The phase of the project on going there is the earthwork, cut & fill and exporting soils. Firstly, we conduct the site meeting due to the lateness of architect to attend the meeting. Main issues in the meeting is after the platform level done by the contractor, the soil must be roll and the compaction test must be done at least at 10-15 points as its not include in the Bill of Quantity. According to Ir.Liew, the weather must be dry at least for 3 days before the compaction test to be done. Then, some big giant rocks occurred at the site while the contractor doing the cut, fill and platform levelling works. The owner then proposed to break the rocks into smaller pieces using the hydraulic pressure or shift the rocks to the empty area of the site as it would be a part of the project landscape. There is also a retaining wall proposed in the project at the end part of the site. Since there is a JPS reserved river after the retaining wall, the idea should be neglected and the hill part should just be cut off. For this purpose, the surveyor must survey the area till the river side to set up a platform level for cutting the soil.

On 11 June 2010 around 12.45pm, I went to Nilai McD site to have a look at the piling works kick off there. I observed the piling process and the measurement label on the piles is in feet (ft) which was normally in meter (m). The unusual things that happened there was the second pile after jointing broken into two parts at the centre portion. Thus, the piling process stopped to find the reasons. The pile is almost to be set off. Reasons why this pile broken into two are because maybe the grade of concrete used for produce these piles is not from G45 or the hammered head failed to bang at the centre portion of the pile head due to the heavy vibration of the pile which almost being set. Since the vibration is high, the hammer head speed should be controlled accurately so that the vibration factors won’t affect the piling process.

Then around 3 pm, I went to Majlis Perbandaran Seremban (MPS) One Stop Centre (OSC) to do the paper works and plans submission for the Eliteflex Project at Seremban 2, Negeri Sembilan.

Week 9

On 31st May 2010, I am instructed by Mr.Liew to follow Miss Dayana. Firstly, we went to Majlis Perbandaran Kajang to pick up an officer there. After that, we headed to McD Semenyih site before Tesco Semenyih for site inspection by the officer from MPKJ. The officer inspects the site according to the drawing submitted to MPKJ. No work has started yet at the site. Developer, Mr Liew also joined together with us there.

Then, we went to the second site at Starfeedmill Company, Beranang for inspection by the officer from MPKJ. This is a CCC inspection in engineering aspect. She snapped some pictures of the building for approval process.

Around 3pm, I was given 5 set of tender documents from different company and asked to verify all the value in the Bill of Quantity in the tender document. Mr. Liew assigns me this task because he scared there might be some arithmetic error in the tender price. This tender is for the SUNNY MODE project at Sg.Gadut, Negeri Sembilan.

On 1st June 2010, I continue again with the tender document verification until the entire document checked thoroughly. Then, in the middle way I was instructed by Mr.Liew to verify the variation order claim for piling (Provisional Sum). This Piling project is regarding the project for Seh Shi Autoparts at Klang, Selangor. The summary of the piling record did not attached together and I could not finish the verification task on that day.

Around 4pm, I went to WRP factory at Sepang, Selangor for a client meeting. This meeting mainly discussed about the new layout of the factory and Mr.lee (Owner) requested a 3D model drawing for the new layout together with the new building portion. He also wanted to add roofing at the loading area for ease of works.

On 2nd June 2010 around 10am, I went for a client meeting at DOU YEE factory at Senawang, Negeri Sembilan. The owner of the company would like to extent the factory with a piece of land behind the existing factory. Then we discussed about procedure of construction, payment and all the necessary matters. Then, Mr.T.M Lim (Plant Manager) brings us to visit his company to observe the existing design of factory to match with the new one. Ir.Liew said a new engineering survey must be done in order to obtain the new ground level of the lot and also for design setting out level for construction purpose.

Then around 11am, I attend site meeting at PK AGRO Project. This meeting mainly highlighted the weekly progress and the problems encountered in the project. Some of the main highlighted issues such as Fulloop (NSC) must fasten up their TNB chasing task for cable laying for power supply as the factory test run would be on 15 June 2010. Withe Engineering (NSC) already completed all the tests and the report must be submitted for verification purpose.

On 3rd June 2010, I was instructed to calculate the area for the Fascia Cladding. This is for omitting process for the Variation Order No.1 for the PK AGRO Project. The Fascia Cladding was designed firstly but Alucobond was replaced while construction took place.

The calculation as per below:-

- The area of the Fascia Cladding covers up 7 portion with 6.90m (length) and 1.50m( height)

- The area = 7 portion x 6.90m x 1.50m = 72.45 m2

- The rate for is RM32.00/ m2

- The total value that need to be omit is RM 32/m2 x 72.45m2 = RM 2318.40

Then, I was instructed to key in all the Bill of Quantity from the tender documents. The total tender document for this SUNNY MODE project is from 5 companies. The entire price quoted by the tendered company calculated previously and recorded for bidding process.

After received the piling summary record from the Liong Hing Piling, I started to settle out the piling work verification for the Seh Shi Autoparts Worldwide at Klang, Selangor. My task is to verify the piling summary recorded data from the piling record is similar and accurate. Then, I need to check the amount of the pile 200mm x 200mm R.C Pile used, the numbers of joints and the number of piling points to justify their claims.

On 4th June 2010, I was instructed by Mr.liew to verify the Total Modern Engineering Varition Order claims for the No Problem Sdn.Bhd. Project. This project is to build a furniture factory with showroom and a guard house on the lot 8599 (GM 2863), Mukim Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor. The VO is regarding the External Premix Road which includes the premix road, road marking & signage (JKR’s Standard) and relocation of post. I referred to the As-Built drawing and the construction drawing to locate the additional works done by Total Modern Engineering.

The calculation for the Resurface the Existing Road (50mm thk Asphalt Macadam Wearing Course and tack coat) as per below:-

- [ ( 30m + 70m + 27m + 40m ) (length of the road section) x 4.5m (width) ] + [ 0.5 (4m + 2.5m) x 30m ( length of road section in trapezoidal shape)]

= 850 m2

The quantity claimed by Total Modern Engineering is 1142.50 m2. So, the amount of Variation Order for Resurfacing The Existing Road approved to Total Modern is 850 m2 x RM 22.00 (contract rate) = RM 18,700.00

Around 4pm, I went for a client meeting at Medictech Gloves factory at Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. The main discussion is to get the Certificate of Fitness for Occupancy (CF) under the name Medictech Gloves. The factory is operating using the old CF under the previous company’s name under Jashim Engineering. The Medictech owner moves into this factory in October 2009.

For this case, according to Ir.Liew the company must obtained 3 supporting letters from BOMBA Mantin, Department of Enviroment (DOE) and Majlis Perbandaran Nilai (MPN). The problem is owner don’t have the drawing of this building. They also already did some addition construction like boiler, chimney and partition to the existing building. For this type of case, the original drawing must be obtained from the authority which had given the CF for Jashim Engineering.

Then, the original drawing and the addition portion of building need to be superimposed together in one drawing and submit to MPN and BOMBA. The new law been practising in Negeri Sembilan is consultant could not straight forward submit the drawing to BOMBA but need to go through the One Stop Centre (OSC) MPN. This drawing is important as when BOMBA come for yearly inspection, they will ask for the drawing for their reference to inspect the factory. After obtained supporting letter from this 3 external department, the CF could be given out under the name Medictech Gloves.

Then, on 19th May 2010, I went again to the PK AGRO Project to attend a site meeting to discuss weekly progress.

Then on 20th May 2010, I continued with the Variation Order to do the recommendation on the claim prices. Ir.Liew taught me to calculate the original price referring to the contract rate from the Bill of Quantity.

On 21st May 2010, I went to Seremban 2 Site to snap some picture of the site with Engineer Nora. The proposed project is to build a 4 stories budget hotel. The pictures we snapped are mainly about the pipe water crossing and its location on site. This is to ease the contractor to remove the location of the pipes while clearing the site and doing the earthwork.

Overview Week 6

On 10 May 2010, Went for site meeting at Impact factory project at Bukit Lanchang, Petaling, Selangor. Firstly, I observe the BOMBA inspection and the way they inspect the fire fighting equipment at the factory. They checked the pump house, Bomba Hose reel pressure, the curtain wall at LV Consumer Switch Room, Control Room and HT Switch Room. For the HT Switch Room, in case of fire emergency, the CO2 gas will be release automatic after the sensor detects the smoke. For the other two rooms, the fire curtain will drop down to disallow the fire to spread into the room.

After the inspection, I attend the site meeting and this meeting mainly focused on the defects issued done by the contractor and the rectification status for updates. Some of rectification technique proposed by Ir.Liew to overcome the defects such as the roof cladding leaking, the joint of stainless steel plate not done neatly and etc.

Some of tests mainly urged by Ir.Liew for verification purpose such as blockage test, pressure test, injection test & etc. Then, I went for site inspection to observe the construction phase and the defects done by contractor. There is a slope failure done by the contractor because they excavate the soil without using the proper method such as sheet pile or open excavation.

On 14th May 2010, I went for a meeting at Chan Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur. This meeting is to discuss and meet the contractor for the upcoming project at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur. Some of additional & changes in the drawing explained to the contractor Mr. Patrick and many questions asked to the contractor regarding the project matters.

Overview Week 5

I went again for site meeting & inspection at the CPF Starfeedmills Company on 3rd Mar 2010. The construction phase already done and just some touch up works such as painting and fixing the defects on going at site. There is also a night visual test proposed by Ir. Liew to make sure the silo does not have any holes when handing over to the owner.

Some of electrical and mechanical works been discussed to get the finishing date for the people from Majlis Perbandaran Kajang(MPKJ) to come and inspect the site. There are also some defects highlighted for rectification purpose as below:-

1) Some of bolt hole miss location – To fix the bolt and make sure no miss out.

2) The top fin plate to top UB flange gap is larger than 6mm and in some area reached few inches. – To rectify this problem, Ir. Liew suggests adding steel plate on both side of the beam at the part it connecting to the column.

This is to stiffener the weak part as the big gap might bend the beam if there is any heavy load acting on it for example heavy machine.

The contractor also awarded (CPC) Certificate of Practical Completion by the owner dated 03rd May 2010 for insurance purpose for contractor. This is a certificate that will be awarded to the contractor upon job completion but the performance bond and the retention sum will be hold until the contractor finishes up all the remedial works.

Then, I went for a meeting at McD Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur on 5th may 2010. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the roof plan that been design by Ir.liew for McD renovation project. After that, I attend another meeting at PK AGRO Company. This meeting is mainly about the variation orders claim by the electrical contractors. Meeting finished around 9.30pm.

On 6th May 2010, I went for a meeting with Koperasi Persatuan Guru-Guru Melayu Nusantara (KPGGM) at Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. This meeting is between the Jurutera Sinarunding, KPGGM and the Developer (SCH Brother). Meeting mainly focused on the land convergence discussion about the project land to the new owner, the process to start work at site and the approval from external department such as SYABAS, MAJLIS PERBANDARAN SELANGOR and many more.

Then, around 3.30pm, I went together with Engineer Lim to Majlis Perbandaran Nilai (MPN) to do the plan submission for the factory project (YOUNGREEM PROJECT) at Taman Tuanku Jaafar, Negeri Sembilan. The submission includes the plans for the Infrastructure, Building, Engineering, Environment, Waste Management, Landscape and etc.

On 7th May 2010, I went to Hulu Langat Site for site meeting and inspection. The previous visit to this site is on 16th April 2010. This meeting as per usual discussed the progress of works and problems encounter in construction stages.

Overview Week 4

On 26th April 2010, I went for site visit at Kapar, Selangor. This is the previously visited site on 9th April 2010. The piling stage almost finishes and the preparation for the pile cap carried out. The problems occurred on this site is some of the piles were labelled by Y10 at the edge of the pile. Pile size is 200 mm x 200 mm and the steel bar used in it was Y12. Confusion occurred and the piling work stopped for moment. After the confirmation obtained that the steel bar used is Y12, then the piling works continued.

I was given company profile and all the information needed typed down. Then, I continued with the variation orders for the PK AGRO Project.

On 30th April 2010, I went again to the Toyota UMW site around 1.30pm for site meeting. This meeting mainly focused on the offset problem occurred in the piling stage. One of the piles is out from the position. As a solution, another pile needs to be piled opposite of the offset pile 450mm distance from the original centre of gravity (CG) to pull back the original centre of gravity (CG). If the centre of the gravity (CG) is not in the position, later it will create problem for the structure.

Overview Week 3

On 19th April 2010, I went to site visit at Bukit Tinggi Klang, Selangor around 10am. The project finished the piling stage and we went to inspect the formwork and the steel reinforcement for the pile caps. The problem that I observed is the hole excavated for pile cap filled with water. The water need to be pumped out using the pump before the pile cap constructed as the rectification work. The steel bar coming out from the pile head also not straight and some of them bent.

On 21st April 2010, I went for a meeting at WRP Factory at Sepang, Selangor. This factory produces the surgical gloves and masks. The meeting mainly discuss about the fire incident at a warehouse at that company past one month and the necessary action that must be taken for insurance claims. Then, I went and visit the part that been caught by fire and snapped some pictures.

On 23rd April 2010, I went for a meeting at PK AGRO Company around 10am. This meeting involve the Owner of PK AGRO, Jurutera Sinarunding Aidil & Ommori Innovation. This meeting mainly discuss regarding the variation orders claims by the contractor. There is some recommendation by the consultant engineer on the price of claims. Then, the owner decides whether want to pay the amount of claims or reject it. The variation orders discussed from VO1- VO27.

Overview Week 2

I continued with the variation orders of the PK AGRO project for 3 days.

Then, on 16TH April 2010, I went for site meeting & inspection at Hulu Langat site at Cheras, Selangor. The project on going there is to build a factory 1 ½ storey (Plastic Injection) with office 3 storey, a warehouse, guard house, waste disposal area & a pump house.

The meeting mainly highlighted about the problems encounter in the construction and the works progress. Then, I went for site inspection to inspect the works done by the contractor and found many defects. For example: The roof for the guard house according to the drawing given. The fascial of the roof does not cover the roof properly and the brick wall not done till the top part of roof. To rectify this problem, the contractor instructed by Ir.Liew to redo the roof part again according to the drawing.

Overview Week 1

Enter for practical for first day and introduced to the staffs. Ir. liew Chong Shing (Consultant Engineer) is my supervisor here. He firstly gave me a contract document of the Project Cadangan Membina Sebuah Kilang Memproses Daging Ayam Yang Mengandungi – 1 Blok Kilang Untuk Memproses, Menyimpan dan Pengeluaran Daging Ayam Dengan Pejabat Urusan Di Tingkat Mezzanin (PK AGRO). He asks me to go through the contract document for once and read carefully the document.

Then, Ir. Liew gave me the variation orders of this project which been submitted by the main contractor (OMORI INNOVATION). This variation orders is the additional or changes in the original contract and contains amount of claims from the contractor side.

Then, I prepared the variation orders from VO1R – VO37 in Microsoft Excel according to the contractor claims with additional consultant recommendation column for comment purpose on the claims.

On 8th April 2010, I went for site meeting & inspection at Starfeedmill CPF Company at Beranang, Selangor. I observed the way the meeting conducted among the Owner, Consultant engineer & Contractor.
